According to legend, Pizza was created by a Napoletean Pizzaiolo in honor of the wife of King Umberto in 1889. Since its inception, Pizza has taken many forms and presently there are a number of varieties of Pizza available in the market depending upon the composition, toppings, seasonings, methods of preparation, and the equipment used to make it; all with the same basic ingredients – Pizza dough, sauce and topping. Pizza Margherita, probably the most simple pizza is covered with tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil. The three ingredients feature the colors of the Italian flag.
- Pizza dough made from white flour
- Pizza sauce made from pureed tomatoes seasoned with a variety of dry and fresh spices including garlic, oregano, marjoram, and basil
- Pizza topping made from ricotta cheese, meat and vegetables like mushrooms, olives, onions, broccoli and green peppers.
PS: The health of a pizza depends on the quality and quantity of each ingredients used in its preparation.
The Preparation Process:
- Making Pizza dough
For Pizza dough, white flour is kneaded with added baker’s yeast, salt, water and olive oil. The kneaded dough is then formed into a ball, dusted with flour and covered with a damp kitchen towel for 1-2 hours until the dough has doubled in size. After stipulated time, the dough is kneaded again for about one minute and then rolled out onto a floured surface into a circle or pie. The edges of the circle are raised by pushing up on the dough with the thumbs.
2. Filling the Pizza
Spread Pizza sauce over the pizza dough to within 0.5 inches of the rim. And then top up with your favorite pizza topping.
3. Baking the Pizza
Preheat oven to 230°C and bake the pizza for about 7 to 10 minutes until the pizzas are golden and crispy.
